about the mission field

Brazil is about 50-60% Roman Catholic, 30% Protestant (mainly Pentecostal), with Afro-Brazilian religions like Candomblé and Umbanda growing, especially in Rio. The city is known for Catholic landmarks (e.g., Christ the Redeemer), vibrant Evangelical communities, and diverse religious practices. While religious tolerance is strong, there are occasional tensions between Catholic, Protestant, and Afro-Brazilian traditions.

Our local partner

ILAN Church (Igreja Life Abundant Nova) is a vibrant Pentecostal congregation in Rio de Janeiro, known for its dynamic worship, community outreach, and social initiatives. They are deeply involved in supporting local families through food distribution, educational programs, and counseling services. The church also focuses on youth mentorship, spiritual development, and outreach to marginalized groups. We are excited to be hosted by a church that is so dedicated to both spiritual and community transformation.

Mission Teams are dedicated to addressing the physical and spiritual needs of specific communities. We believe that Christ’s command to go into all the world remains unchanged. However, we are mindful of the various challenges that exist both locally and globally. We commit to taking all necessary precautions and collaborating with our missionary hosts to adhere to local guidelines. When needs and requests arise from our missionary partners and hosts, we aim to provide opportunities for those who are willing and able to go and assist in meeting these needs.
